What is clutter? Clutter is an unfinished business. It is a procrastination pile. Taking care of the clutter is about creating a healthy boundaries for our home.

Declutter for an organized home
When my second son was born, I found it incredibly challenging to keep the house in any kind of order while caring for both of my boys. Before having kids, I took pride in maintaining an organized home—and even worked as a professional organizer helping others do the same. But once I became a mom, everything changed. The priorities, the rhythm, and the way our home functioned all shifted.
Friends would try to comfort me with, “Don’t worry about the house,” and while I understood it wasn’t my top priority anymore, the reality was that we still needed clean dishes to eat from, meals on the table, and I was constantly overstimulated by toys scattered across the floor.
I felt like I was stuck in a hamster wheel—doing the same tasks over and over with no lasting result. That kind of repetition and wasted effort drained my motivation. I longed for a home that felt calm and manageable, where I wasn’t overwhelmed and could truly be the best mom I could be. I wanted simplicity, a clutter-free space, and a system that helped me stay on top of the daily demands of family life.

One day, I began to reevaluate my surroundings. I realized that many things in our home weren’t there because we used or needed them—they were just there, taking up space. That’s when I started paying closer attention to what we actually used on a regular basis. I set up a box in a convenient spot to easily drop in items we never used. Then I added another box for things I thought I wanted to get rid of, giving myself time to decide without losing the momentum of the purge.
That’s when the journey truly began. I started seeing our belongings in a new light—recognizing what supported our goals, what genuinely served us, and what was silently tied to negative emotions and memories we didn’t need to hold on to. Decluttering became more than just tidying up; it became a shift in mindset.
Here are some tips and benefits I’ve discovered along the way to creating a home where we can truly enjoy the power of living with less.

What are the benefits of an organized and clutter free home?
1. Peace of Mind – Decluttering helps to give me peace of mind, there are no longer too
many items in our home to care for, which has decreased my stress and work load. Studies shows that clutter elevates cortisol in our body – which is a stress hormone. Being organized means my brain doesn’t have to juggle decisions constantly or getting reminders from my surrounding. Which in turn means, a happier me!
2. Focus and Clear Vision – A decluttered home gives me the opportunity to have focus and a clear
vision for the needs of my family. Less distraction gives a clear clue of what really needs to be done. Since the tasks are reduced and getting them done is easier, I have less decisions to make because I can do the tasks on autopilot. With no distraction I have better focus and clear vision how to use my time more efficiently.

3. Time – Decluttering gives me more time to spend on the important things in life – my
family, friends, and the hobbies I enjoy. I was able to cut out time by letting go of taking care of things that brought more problems into my life then solutions. Every item in our home owns a peace of us and our time.
4. Learning Skills – I was decluttering in the garage one day when I found a big bag of gear for swimming for my then young kids. That made me think if my boys could learn to swim we wouldn’t need to rely on these things. Let’s teach them a skill.
The next day I signed them up for swimming classes. All the gadgets and material stuff that are available to support our lacking skills can trap us into not learning and rely on more possessions.
In the kitchen, I looked around at all the gadgets and had a realization, if I just learned to properly cut fruits and vegetables, I wouldn’t need most of these tools. One great knife could do the job. That was a big “aha” moment for me: I realized how often we let things replace our skills.

5. Lightened Chores – Decluttering has lightened the load of my chores and gives me the
opportunity to get things done properly – not in a rush. It’s almost meditating to get the cleaning done with a decluttered home where I don’t need to move things and think about where to put them. Just a quick refresh to bless my home and be thankful for.

6. Healthier Habits – When I’m rushing through the day, I often feel overwhelmed and scattered. But when there’s less to take care of, I have the mental space to be intentional about how I get things done. Before I decluttered, even a quick message from a friend saying, “I’ll stop by in 30 minutes,” would send me into a panic. Hosting a birthday party felt like a full-blown project, and I’d race around the house trying to make it presentable.
Now, things look a lot different. My home isn’t spotless all the time, but it’s manageable. A quick tidy-up and reset takes no more than 20 minutes. That means less stress and more time for healthy habits—like taking a walk, doing a morning stretch, or actually sitting down to enjoy a cup of tea and a meal, rather than grabbing bites while standing at the counter.

Additional Benefits of a Decluttered Home
- Less Distraction – Decluttering gives me the ability to focus on the task at hand, without
being distracted by too many things. - Cleaner Home – Decluttering gives me the space to keep things we love, without having
to find a place for everything. This in turn makes for a cleaner home. - Cleaner Air in the Home – Decluttering helps to keep the air in my home cleaner by not
having an over abundance of possessions which crowd the home and make the air
seem heavy. A way to help keep the air clean would be to choose non-toxic paper
containers over plastic. Also, if you can, use an air purifier. - Space – Decluttering helps me have more space in my home, which allows me to focus
my attention on the bigger picture (a clutter free home which is inviting to my family and
friends.) - Calm – Decluttering has helped me to be calmer with a real sense of peace. Take one
space at a time, go slowly and declutter. This is a process, but it’s so worth it! - Energy – Decluttering gives me the energy I need to complete tasks efficiently because
it’s not being used to straighten, store, wash, etc. unnecessary clutter.
