Why Homemade Cleaners?

I want to share 5 reasons why I choose homemade cleaners and why you should too. Homemade cleaners are really simple to produce and are healthier than store-bought cleaners, plus they are really inexpensive to make, they’re basically free.

Scandish Home - Noemi Cleaning

5 Reasons I Choose Homemade Cleaners:

  1. You can control the ingredients in cleaners you make
  2. Homemade cleaners allow for better air quality in your home
  3. Homemade cleaners are cost effective
  4. Homemade cleaners are environmentally friendly and produce less waste
  5. Homemade cleaners eliminate resistant bacteria

Fragrant cleaning products have been associated with a range of adverse health effects such as migraine headaches, asthmatics, respiratory difficulties, neurological problems, mucosal symptoms, and dermatitis.

Fragrances are linked to a staggering numbers of health risks across multiple research studies. Chemicals used to make fragrances are classified as allergens, hormone disruptors, asthma triggers, neurotoxins, and carcinogens. Fragrances are highly toxic and that’s why I started to use homemade cleaners.

A clean home leaves fewer places for germs and bacteria to hide. Dust and allergens can build up in carpets and bedding and that can lead to worse allergies, and on top of all of that, respiratory irritation.

My homemade cleaner recipes are very easy to make. As well, the cost is so minimal it almost seems free!

Products I Recommend for Homemade Cleaners

I bought this glass bottle over 4 years ago and it’s still works great and I use it a lot! You can find this glass bottle HERE.

I also love to use these swedish dishcloths to clean and wipe down the counter.

You can find all of my cleaning supplies in my Amazon store, or in the links below!

You can also find all of my cleaning and other non-toxic home recipes here.

Scandish Home Cleaning Glass Bottle

All Purpose Cleaner

• 1 1/2 Cup water
• 1/2 teaspoon dish soap
• 20 drops of tangerine essential oil or good mood essential oil

Heavy Duty Cleaner

• 1/4 Cup baking soda
• 1 Tablespoon sal suds
• 1 Tablespoon fractionated coconut oil
• 15 drops of essential oil (I like lemon or tangerine)

Glass Cleaner Recipe #1

It might not smell great, but it’s way better for your heath when using indoors.

Glass Cleaner Recipe #2

  • 50% rubbing alcohol
  • 50% water.

My honest opinion is that this one cleans the mirrors and the glass a little better than the vinegar recipe option, but it is highly toxic to breathe in because of the VOC (volatile organic compounds – has plastic and can cause neurological damage). Because of this, I only use this recipe option outside.

I’m so glad I found your videos on
      YouTube!
Love your tips, ideas, recipes and style.
I just ordered the blue spray bottles and orange essential oil for cleaning.
Can’t wait to start using to save money and better for our home.
But I noticed that the essential oil has been crossed out in the recipes.
      I was wondering why.
Have your recipes changed and if so can you email me updates ones.
      Thank you so much!! 😊

Dear Naomi, your videos, your minimalism and your way of housekeeping inspire me so much. In fact, I’m chaotic and fot many years didn’t manage the housework in a proper way. Your videos had a big impact on the way, my house looks now (clean and tidy). I’m so glad about it. My question to you: how do you wash/clean your (Merino?)-duster?

Hi Alison! Thank you so much for watching my videos and visiting my website, it really means so much ? I really love the cleaners and hope you do too. I used Ikea exclusively for the drawers and cabinets, with lots of help from Zsolt. We designed the kitchen ourselves. The countertops are from a local store! Our toilet is from amazon and HERE IS THE LINK ?? I hope this helps and good luck with remodeling! ❤

    Hello Noemi
I only started watching your videos in November and I honestly thought from the look of your home and the videos of your garden that you lived in Sweden! I couldn’t believe it when I heard you say you lived in the US early in January. You certainly fooled me.
The nicest thing about watching the videos is when I’m doing all my chores around the house, I don’t feel like I’m the only person doing these tasks. I now think ‘well Noemi has just as much work as me to do and we can work alongside each other even though she’s on the other side of the world.’ I just pop you tube on in the background and I’m away!
The contented feeling I get when the house is clean and tidy is worth all the effort. Thanks for doing the channel and making us neat freaks feel a little bit less weird 😉 and just maybe a bit proud.
    Happy Homemaking

      Hi,
I’m from Sweden and reacted almost the same! I guess it’s the items from IKEA that they like in their home. They are to be find all over the world these days but I jump every time I see something I have myself or recognize. ?
