Healthy habits for cleaning

Healthy habits for cleaning are a great way to improve our health. Making homemade cleaners and detergents that actually clean but don’t contain any fragrances and perfumes are just a couple ways to make healthy cleaning habits. Recipe and links to the ingredients I use (like the washing soda) is in the video down below in this post.

I really like using this bottle here to make the cleaner in! Cut a few slices of oranges and add some pine needles, then cover it with vinegar and let it rest in a dark place for at least a few days, or even better for a week or two. This cleaner is great for counter tops, and the orange slices and pine needles will give a nice scent but take away the smell of the vinegar. It’s an option if you don’t like the smell of the vinegar, but I don’t recommend using this on the window because it will make streaks from the oil that the orange slices released. See the recipe in more details in the video at the bottom of this post.

Another great habit is to freshen up the bedroom each morning. Opening the windows, if it’s winter even if just for 10 minutes, and shaking the sheet will help to eliminate nasty mold growth and the funky smell that is actually a good breeding ground for bacteria in the sheets. Opting with a linen fabric for the fitted sheet and duvet cover are also a great help for humidity and temperature control.

Making soaps at home is also a great way to avoid ingredients that can impact our health. To simplify the process, you can buy soap bases (here is another good option for a glycerin soap) that are ready to use, you just have to melt them and add some essential oils or vitamin E. It’s a very fun way to personalize the soaps and even makes a great gift for your loved ones.

Once we get into the small habits of doing a few changes here and there, we can transform our home for a healthier environment.

    Hi all,

it’s a late reply but I was just researching about borax and how come it’s banned in EU. Since I also live in EU, I found that crystal soda (sodium carbonate – Na2CO3) can be used instead of borax and it’s better for that use than regular baking soda. Have you tried baking soda for this homemade detergent? I would like to hear reviews 🙂

Noemi, thank you for all your great advices! I’m addicted to your videos 😀

    Hi Noemi,

I love the idea of making my own cleaners, but I do not know a good source or where to purchase good essential oils. Any suggestions?

As to the contents I really like dairy & gluten free recipes and all healthy habits for cleaning (do you have any suggestions to remove mold in the shower?)
My baby girl is 9 months old now and I have decided to fire me in order to dedicate the next two years to her… so (maybe ?) I will have time to take care of my new home as well.
I really like your videos and channel as the main thing is that you look like a simple and real person/family.
I wish you all an enjoyable day! ?
